Kavas Kapadia holds his Architectural degrees from School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Delhi, one of the leading educational institutions of India. He graduated as an Architect in the year 1969 and completed Post Graduation in Town & Country Planning in 1971. He has elaborate professional experience as an Architect in Nigeria, Iran and a brief stint in Singapore besides working in India. He joined the Department of Urban Planning at SPA in 1981. He has been since involved in Planning and Architecture education in India while dipping his hands in Urban Planning. He has taught courses in several universities, been on selection committees and juries and served as Head of the Department and the Dean of Studies of the SPA.
More than 44years (in the field related to Architecture/ Architectural Education/ Urban Planning/ Development, Management, Policy Planning, Legal framework). He served this industry for 7 years and 8 months as Director/Principal at college of Architecture. Currently positioned as chief town planner at Sahara City Homes Pvt. Ltd. He holds a B.Arch degree, Master of City and Regional Planning, P.G.diploma in Gandhian Philosophy from Punjab University with advance diploma in management of urban development. He has been rewarded with Vishawa Karma Award for contribution to the field of Architecture and Planning. He was positioned as Vice- President at Indian Institute of Architects.
Educated as an architect, planner, urban designer and historian, AlSayyad is principally an urbanist whose specialty is the study of cities, their urban spaces, their social practices and their economic realities. He has produced and co-directed two public television video documentaries: “Virtual Cairo” and “At Home with Mother Earth.” Among his numerous grants are those received from the U.S. Department of Education, NEA—Design Arts Program, Getty Grant Program, the Graham Foundation, the SSRC, and a Guggenheim fellowship. His awards include the Beit AlQuran Medal from Bahrain, the Pioneer American Society Book Award, the American Institute of Architects Education Honors, and the Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest honor the University of California bestows on its faculty.
Prof. Kumar has been one of the leaders in the field of Architecture and Design in India and his contribution to the world of Architecture as an academician has made him an absolute inspiration for generations of students studying Architecture. His in-depth knowledge in the domain has seen him head some of the leading offices in the country. He has been the Ex-Head of Department of Transport Planning at SPA for years.
